New this year, AIR requires a two-factor authentication process. When you log in to TIDE for the first time, you will be asked to reset your password and a code will be sent to your email at that time. You will have 5 minutes to use the code before it expires and a new code will need to be requested.

  • The Test Delivery System universal tool known as “Reading Mode” has been removed from all tests last night to address issues where tables and charts are cut off in stimuli and reading passages. We have found Smarter Balanced items were not consistently configured to work with this Test Delivery System feature. In place of Reading Mode, the stimuli/passages on all tests will appear with the ‘Expandable Passage’ option. These changes will be automatically implemented upon student log-in this morning.

If a student needs additional supports to simplify their reading load, “Streamlined Interface Mode” can be turned on in TIDE. Please see figure 267 of the Idaho Assessment Systems Manual for an example of how items will appear in “Streamlined Interface Mode” to assist in determining if this is the correct support for your students’ needs.

No actions need to be taken by the field unless “Streamlined Interface Mode” is needed.

  • AIR is enhancing their capacity to defend against distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks by implementing a protection system offered by a company called Akamai.  Akamai’s solution provides the most protection available on the market.

There is minimal risk involved in moving from AIR’s current DDoS protection at Rackspace to the Akamai system, but we want you to be aware that AIR is making a change. Essentially, with the new system, traffic to AIR’s websites will pass through Akamai’s network to be scrubbed for any potential DDoS attacks before reaching our systems at Rackspace. This will not result in any increased latencies or other noticeable impacts to the field.

On Saturday, September 23, AIR began routing Idaho’s inbound Internet traffic to AIR’s sites at Rackspace through Akamai’s network

Most users will not need to do anything as a result of this change. However, since AIR’s preparations include configuring new IP addresses for some applications, schools that perform whitelisting and/or traffic shaping on their networks should be aware of these IP addresses and should double-check their configurations. Current IP addresses and their associated URLs are available upon request by contacting the Idaho Help Desk.

  • Update on Intermittent connectivity issues connecting to AIR servers today The connectivity issues noted on Friday have been resolved as of this weekend. Please contact the Idaho Help Desk if further issues are encountered.

    Added April 24, 2017
  • April 21, 2017 – Intermittent connectivity issues connecting to AIR servers today Attention Technology Coordinators: Some users have reported to AIR that they are having trouble reaching AIR servers. The servers are functioning normally, but there appears to be a problem reaching the servers.  When contacting a server over the internet, the first step is to look up the address of the server, and this step is sometimes failing.  AIR has identified the issue and is actively fixing it. The problem was due to a bad DNS entry being propagated. If districts continue to experience issues they should flush the DNS cache on their name server and the problem should resolve itself. If districts are not having any issues, we do not expect that they will. Please contact the Help Desk if you need any additional assistance: Tel 1-844-560-7365 or IDHelpDesk@air.org.

    Added April 21, 2017
  • Students taking the Alternate Assessment who do not have a paper-pencil accommodation should be completing their tests in the Student Interface (or Secure Browser). The Data Entry Interface (or DEI) should only be accessed by Teachers who have students with a paper-pencil accommodation. Once the student completes their paper-pencil test, the Teacher will transcribe the student’s responses into the DEI and submit the test. Alternate Assessments should not be completed on both of these sites.

  • AIR has posted the new NeoSpeech license verification file in TIDE. The old version is set to expire on May 3, 2017, however, we encourage all users to update the file as soon as possible. Districts will simply need to copy the new license file to the appropriate folder on Windows machines used for student testing. Districts do not need to re-install the voice pack itself if it is already installed; they only need to update the license file, or “verification.txt” file. The new verification.txt file can be found in the “General Resources” drop-down in the top right corner of TIDE under “Download Voice Pack.”

  • While AIR had hoped to have scores flowing into ORS last week the unfortunate news is that the backlog of Smarter Balanced scores will not begin flowing again in the Online Reporting System (ORS) until this week. The delay is because AIR had to reconfigure their systems to accommodate some late changes the Smarter Balanced Consortium made to some of the scoring rubrics so the kids could have the most valid scores possible. This is, unfortunately, another first year hurdle we had hoped we would not have. AIR and Smarter Balanced apologize to the teachers, coaches and parents who were counting on having scores in the system earlier than this week.

These resources are now available on the ISAT portal and located in the Teachers & Test Administrators and Test Coordinator Resources page under the “District and School Implementation Guidance” folder. To access the recording of the webinar that reviewed and explained these resources, go to the State Department of Education's website and select the District and School Implementation Guidance Webinar.

  • As you may know, some student scores are not yet available in the Online Reporting System (ORS). Smarter Balanced’s review of some of the scoring guidelines revealed places where clarifications would help ensure that every student gets an accurate score. We are waiting to score student responses until these enhancements are completed. We are working closely with Smarter Balanced and expect resolution next week. Similarly, a handful of other items have been removed from the Smarter item bank and tests containing some of those items have to be re-scored. We expect these issues to be resolved soon and data to begin flowing to ORS soon.

  • Update: There are separate ISAT tests for grades 9, 10 and 11. Only grade 10 students are required to test. Grades 9 and 11 are optional. The computer adaptive portion of the Grade 10 math test will appear in TDS like this: Grade 10 Math Summative while the performance task will be titled this way: Grade 10 Math Summative-Perf. Grade 9 and 11 are optional and will appear as: “Grade 9 Math Summative” and “Grade 11 Math Summative.” Even though ELA/Literacy items for the high school assessment come from the same bank, there are different cut scores for grades 9, 10 and 11. While grades 9-11 ELA use the same performance tasks, their titles are different and contain grade-specific language. Grade 10 ELA tests will appear this way in TDS: Grade 10 ELA Summative and performance tasks will look like this: Grade 10 ELA Summative-Perf. You will also see “Grade 9 ELA Summative” and “Grade 11 ELA Summative,” and “Grade 9 ELA Summative-Perf” and “Grade 11 ELA Summative-Perf.” In addition you may have noticed that there are also specific Classroom Activities for each grade in TIDE, which are delivered by the classroom teachers not more than 3 days prior to the Performance Task portion of the assessment. Administer grade 10 students the grade 10 classroom activities and performance tasks. When assigning any tests to students, first select ISAT Summative from the drop down menu for test type. We recommend not sorting by grade or subject. Once you select ISAT Summative you will see the different grade levels for the computer adaptive tests and the performance tasks.
